Applications

All composers are eligible to apply, regardless of their country of residence, experience or age.

While the individual choice of a mentor may be included in the application, the MBZ team reserves the right to assign participants to mentors.   

The MBZ team will choose the participants based on applications submitted via Google Forms.

Application deadline: February 1, 2023 (23:59 CET)

Applications will not be accepted after the deadline. 

Selected applicants will be announced by February 20, 2023. 

The application for active participation must contain:

  • Applicant’s CV in Croatian or English (up to 1800 characters with spaces)
  • A brief description of their work, artistic visions, and goals in the form of a letter 
  • 3 compositions (scores and links to audio and/or video recordings of compositions) that best represent the applicant’s work, in his or her opinion

All selected applicants will be required to provide:

(1) A score of a section or an entire piece of a preferred duration of up to 5 minutes, but not more than 7 minutes, for any combination or an entire ensemble of provided instruments without electronics for reading sessions with the Klangforum Wien: violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, piano (also celesta and harpsichord), percussion (vibraphone with a bow, tam-tam, gran cassa, 5 sets of cow bells, 3 sets of cymbals – ride, crash, splash according to register).
The deadline is March 6, 2023.  

(2) A draft score of a composition or a finished score of a piece for any combination of instruments with or without electronics for individual classes with the mentor. The piece may contain multimedia, improvisation or interactive elements.
The deadline is March 3, 2023. 

The composition selected for individual classes with a mentor may be the same as that selected for reading sessions with the Klangforum Wien or it may be a different composition. If the composition is the same, it must meet the above requirements (1).

The application for passive participation must contain

  • Applicant’s CV in Croatian or English (up to 1800 characters with spaces).
  • 1 composition (score and link to audio and/or video recording of compositions) that best represents the applicant’s work, in his or her opinion.

During the application process, the MBZ team may ask candidates for additional materials if needed.

 

Participation fee

  • International active participants: €290
  • International passive participants: €120
  • Active participants from Croatia, except students and staff of the Music Academy Zagreb: €190
  • MBZ composers: 190€​
  • Students and staff of the Music Academy Zagreb, active or passive: free of charge
  • Passive participants from Croatia: free of charge

All composers that are part of MBZ 2023 program are welcome to visit the masterclass part open to public as passive participants, with prior notice to francesca.paleka@hds.hr. If the composers would like to visit the masterclass as active participants, they must submit an application via Google form (apply). The participation fee is 190€.

Selected participants for the MBZ masterclass for composers will be notified of the protocol and method of payment in due course.  

Participants accept the MBZ Privacy Policy and all Terms and Conditions.  

Participants will be provided with the festival pass and are welcome to take part in all other MBZ programs.
