Operatic Youth Day

On the artistic-political scandal surrounding the opera Maršal/Marshal in 2011. Composer Silvio Foretić wrote his opera Maršal as a commission of Music Biennale Zagreb and according to Vinko Brešan's movie Maršal/Marshal – the comedy in which the ghost of Josip Broz Tito, also known as Marshal Tito, appears.

PARTICIPANTS:
SILVIO FORETIĆ, composer, retired professor at the College of Music Folkwang
ZDENKA KAPKO FORETIĆ, PhD, musicologist and critic
BERISLAV ŠIPUŠ, composer and conductor, professor at the Music Academy of the University of Zagreb, former Minister of Culture in the Government of the Republic of Croatia, former long-time artistic director of the MBZ

These twenty MBZ Stories represent, of course, just a smaller part of the Biennale heritage and only a few people of the many one could talk to about the early Biennale years – the ones we filmed in just one week in July of 2020. There are many more who were and are involved in Music Biennale Zagreb in different ways and whose memories would very much contribute to the Stories, but due to a lot of circumstances, they remain to be included in future editions.
