Besides presenting the BALKAN AFFAIRS program in Lauba, dedicated to introducing young regional composers in the context of the consequences of the war in the 1990s in this region, the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart will perform in the same venue Chaya Czernowin’s third composition from the triptych Vena, titled Immaterial, which is prepared for six wired voices. The composition Immaterial was premiered by this well-known ensemble on February 2, 2022 at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart Theater as part of another major contemporary music festival, ECLAT Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart who commissioned the piece. According to the composer, this triptych can be performed as a separate concert of one of its parts or a part at a time during three evenings. Immaterial, premiered in February 2022, is both a book of madrigals and an “immaterial” opera. In both parts, it addresses the relationship between sensation and emotion at the level of pure affectivity, without social, cultural and other secondary implications. As such, the opera has neither language nor story, but uses sensory, audio-visual provocations to foster the creation of an immediate, highly individual and personalized experience where each member of the audience must also become an author in order to decipher even a fraction of the composer’s immaterial password.
