Interactive Improvisation for the pre-Biennale kickoff

The Jazz Ensemble of the Music Academy in Zagreb will hold three performances titled Interactive Improvisations at the Music Biennale Zagreb. Young musicians will perform in the window of the French Institute and will join the celebration commemorating the centenary of the French Institute and the Music Academy with this Biennale performance.

The project was presented by Associate Professor Saša Nestorović, the Ensemble’s mentor, as follows:

“The Jazz Ensemble of the Music Academy in Zagreb has existed for twelve years, since the launch of the course ‘The Fundamentals of Jazz Improvisations’. The great interest of the students and their mastery of carefully nourished instrumentalism inspired the formation of the ensemble that immediately recorded a show on the Croatian Radiotelevision, held a number of performances, and participated in many projects of the Academy and municipal stages.

Over the last few years, improvisation students have become increasingly involved in the rapid regional development of the free improvisation scene that graced the Ljubljana and Sarajevo jazz festival with guest appearances of John Zorn, participation in numerous Improdays in Zagreb, interactive immersion in many venues, from the disbanded SC Scene (MM center) to the Greta Gallery, Vinyl, Močvara, Cultural Center Mesnička. The sound of the ensemble, based on the principles of American and European free jazz, is characterized by a refined approach to the tonal possibilities and colors provided by the study of classical music.”
