Zoran Šćekić
Artistic director of MiCROfestZoran Šćekić graduated in jazz guitar from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. As a winner of the Brussels Scholarship in 1998, he went to Helsinki and Vienna, where he completed his master’s degree in jazz theory, composition and arrangement and attended the International Summit of Music Academies as the representative of the Sibelius Music Academia. As a composer, arranger and guitarist, his work in the field of written and improvised music encompasses many styles ranging from classical, jazz, ethno, contemporary, avant-garde, and microtonal music in which he uses both traditional and his own version of graphic and hybrid notation as described in detail in the Graphic & hybrid scores. His other works Five Limit Intervals – Theory & Praxis and The art of spectral groups focus on microtonal harmony. Šćekić gave a series of lectures on the microtonal keyboard prototypes (Z-board and harmographs – Lira Spectrum) that were built in San Diego and Bari according to his design. Lira Spectrum is on permanent display at the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum in Zagreb. Writing mainly chamber music for concerts, theatre, dance performances, films, and various music festivals, he collaborated with leading national and international ensembles and orchestras such as the Cantus Ensemble, HRT Jazz and Tamburitza Orchestras, HRT Symphony Orchestra, LADO National Folk Dance Ensemble, Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, and international names such as Miroslav Vitouš, Pascal Rophe, Chriss Jarrett, and others. As the winner of the 2015 International Competition of the Croatian Composers’ Society, he released his first CD Just Music, in collaboration with Ravello Recordings (US) and NAXOS, that the Grammy-winning actor John Schneider picked for his The Best of 2015 in the USA. He is one of the founders of the Croatian Association of Microtonal Art (HUMUS).
