Nina Čalopek
Program curator of the MBZ children’s and youth programs / program team memberNina Čalopek graduated in musicology from the Music Academy in Zagreb, after which she enrolled in postgraduate doctoral studies in literature, culture, performing arts and film at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. It is precisely the constant and keen interest in the performance practice itself that is the main drive of all her activities. She has been actively involved in production and organization, particularly in the field of contemporary music. She has been executive producer of the Cantus Ensemble since 2006, and executive producer of the Music Biennale Zagreb (MBZ) since 2009, as well as a member of MBZ’s program committee since 2019. At the jubilee 60th edition of the MBZ, she was also director of the festival’s program for children. In 2013, she was appointed executive producer of the Celebration of Croatia’s Entry into the European Union by the Government of the Republic of Croatia. Since 2017, she has served as president of the Croatian Association Osor Musical Evenings and executive producer of the national festival Osor Musical Evenings. She worked with artists and ensembles such as Heiner Goebbels, Vinko Globokar, Tansy Davies, Rolf Wallin, Irvin Arditti, Richard Ayers, David Kollar, Michael Riessler, London Sinfonietta, Camerata Nordica, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra di Verona etc. An active participant in the international cultural scene, she was a Croatian representative of the International Society for Contemporary Music and was also elected as a member of its Board of Directors from 2012 to 2013. Prominent collaborations include those with the European Festival Association (EFA), the Croatian Foundation Kultura nova and other parties and organizations on the national and international music and culture scene. She writes critical reviews and is presently a permanent associate of the website Kulturpunk.hr. She works at the Croatian Composers’ Society.
