Margareta Ferek-Petrić
Artistic directorMargareta Ferek-Petrić studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna under Iván Erőd, Chaya Czernowin and Klaus-Peter Sattler. She received scholarships from various institutions and foundations, including the Austrian State Scholarship for Composers in 2016. In 2010, the Thyll-Dürr Foundation invited her to work at the Casa Zia Lina on Elba, in 2011, she was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize for orchestral composition Take 7, and in 2017, she received the Music Award by the City of Vienna. In 2018, she was appointed Artist in Residence of the Carinthian Summer Festival – Carinthischer Sommer. At the Prix Annelie de Man competition in the Netherlands, she won the 2nd prize and the audience award for the composition Ištaratu. She also won the annual Boris Papandopulo award by the Croatian Composers’ Society and the Josip Štolcer Slavenski award by the City of Čakovec for her piece All the World’s a Stage. She represented Croatia at the ISCM World New Music Days in Tallinn in 2019 and was elected artistic director of the Music Biennale Zagreb for its 2021 and 2023 editions. She has written many solo and chamber compositions, several vocal and orchestral works, music for the theater and big band music. Her compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles and musicians around the world, and some of her recent works can be found on albums released by Decca Records, Neos music and Croatia Records. In 2015, she became a member of the Austrian Contemporary Music Society – ÖGZM, and has been a regular member of the Croatian Composers’ Society since 2016. Margareta lives and works between Vienna and Zagreb.
