BALKAN AFFAIRS at the Sommer in Stuttgart festival

Der Sommer in Stuttgart, a festival dedicated to New music, from July 20 to 23 becomes a platform specifically intended for young composers to experiment and have their works performed by musicians such as Ensemble AscoltaNeue Vocalsolisten or Pony Says.

After a successful premiere at the 32nd edition of Music Biennale Zagreb, BALKAN AFFAIRS will have its German premiere as part of the Sommer in Stuttgart festival. This biennale project was created in co-production with the Musik der Jahrhunderte association and the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart ensemble.

Six members of the Neue Vocalsolisten ensemble perform compositions by six composers from six former Yugoslav states. In their works, Hanan Hadžajlić, Jug Marković, Ana Pandevska, Nina Perović, Petra Strahovnik and Helena Skljarov, speak about the consequences of the Croatian War of Independance and investigate its echoes in the present. Through their memories, they built their own musical worlds defined by electronics (live) and video or electroacoustics intertwined with various performing techniques – from traditional singing to hyperbolized breathing and screams...
