IRK Performing Reflection to visit Ring Ring festival in Belgrade

After a highly successful, sold-out performance at the 32nd Music Biennale Zagreb, Ivar Roban Križić’s project IRK Performing Reflection will appear at the Ring Ring festival in Belgrade (Jewish Cultural Center) on 18 May 2023. The project has received the EFFEA initiative (European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists) financial support and is realised as a programming collaboration with festivals of new music, electronics, electroacoustics, avant-garde jazz – Ring Ring Festival (Serbia) and 180° – Laboratory for Innovative Art (Bulgaria).

The project IRK Performing Reflection at the MBZ 2023, along with the final concert performance, was preceded by a three-day residency for the nine-member ensemble. The final outcome – the performance itself, without open rehearsals – will be presented to the Belgrade audience by a (slimmed-down) line-up consisting of: Ivar Roban Križić (double bass), Nikola Vuković (trumpet), Bojan Krhlanko (drums, percussion, electronics) and Thomas Grill (electronics).

The final artistic outcome of the artistic research project “Performing Reflection”, which dealt critically with the practice of free improvisation in the context of an ensemble, will be presented as part of the concert. Through the project, the ensemble developed new reflexive methodologies that allowed them to deepen their understanding of free improvisation and reach new highs of musical and formal coherence in collective interaction.

The 27th edition of the Ring Ring International New Music Festival will be held in Belgrade, 17 to 21 May 2023, at the Jewish Cultural Center and Radio Belgrade’s Studio 6. The festival programme will feature nine concerts by artists and ensembles from Germany, Austria, Denmark, Slovenia, France, Iran, Croatia, Sweden, Japan, Serbia, USA...

After Belgrade, the project IRK Performing Reflection will appear at the 180° – Laboratory for Innovative Art festival in Sofia (Bulgaria) in July.
