BALKAN AFFAIRS

Six Worlds, six Voices: conceived as a project that opens space for composers from the region, BALKAN AFFAIRS for MBZ connects six promising young composers with six performers of the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart ensemble, one of the most important ensembles for contemporary music today.

Although they were very young at the time of the war, six composers from the project coming from different Balkan regions, and even to this day, they feel the consequences which they explore through this project. Their memories are crucial for building musical worlds, sometimes in conjunction with electronics (live) and video projections or in the manner of electroacoustics, which also include various performing techniques, from traditional singing to hyperbolized breathing and screams... The result will be six premieres in co-production with the Musik der Jahrhunderte Association and the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart ensemble.
