Videos of concerts of the 31st Music Biennale Zagreb released

Last year, the Music Biennale Zagreb (MBZ) celebrated its 60th anniversary with its 31st edition of the MBZ, held in four programme blocks from April to September 2021. Before the start of the 32nd edition of this, one of the largest modern music festivals in the region, to be held in 2023, the Music Biennale Zagreb has released an audio-visual walk-through last year’s programme.

Every Saturday in August, MBZ will release one concert on its official YouTube channel. The first, a concert by Kaja Draksler, is already available. The concert was held on 16 July 2021 at the Jedinstvo factory, organised in conjunction with JazzHR.

This young pianist from Slovenia has sunk her new projects in the possibilities of microtonality, using the piano as a speaker with recordings that ‘play’ over it. She explains that every composition is a world of its own, with its own language, vegetation, climate and logic. As in her work to date, she is most interested in the subtle shifts between composed and improvised sections, especially in timbre and structure.

In addition to the concert by Kaja Draksler, the MBZ YouTube channel will also feature performances by Gobi Drab, Franjo Bilić and the group Delapse. The MBZ organisers will soon release the details of the upcoming 32nd MBZ, and until then, enjoy the music of performers from last year’s concerts.
