The Pit and the Fibula
At the 26th Music Biennale Zagreb, the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra will be performing works by two important Croatian composers of the 20th century and works selected at the World New Music Days contest.
Alongside the Ivan Goran Kovačić Choir it will be performing a composition based on a long poem by that Croatian poet: the cantata Jama / The Pit by Stanko Horvat, followed by Fibula by Natko Devčić, for two orchestras and a bass-baritone. Luciano Batinić will be the vocal soloist, and the orchestra will be conducted by the doyen of Croatian music, maestro Nikša Bareza.
Composition The Pit by the academic Stanko Horvat (1930 - 2006), a long-time chairman of the Arts Council and later the artistic director of the MBZ, received the "Josip Slavenski" and "Vladimir Nazor" awards in 1972. Academic Natko Devčić (1914 - 1997) was also a recipient of the latter award.
