Danijel Legin on

Thanks to the Rudolf and Margita Matz Fund, I have successfully accomplished several projects in this past year, of which I would like to highlight two compositions - Spielen and A Day in October.
The composition Spielen was created at the incentive of Group for New Music at the Elly Bašić Music School, their manager Maja Petyo Bošnjak and conductor Josip Nalis, who led the premiere of Spielen at the Music Biennale Zagreb in 2011. The Group for New Music at the Elly Bašić Music School consists of young, very enthusiastic musicians interested in contemporary music performance, thus making this experience mutually interesting. The composition was performed again at the 48th Festival in Opatia, where the composition A Day in October had its premiere performance.
The work was written for the ensemble Klang, consisting of two pianists and two percussionists, which allows the composers the access to an interesting span of sound combinations and instrumental colours. My collaboration with the ensemble Klang during the preparation process of A Day in October resulted in ideas for future projects which occupy my focus at the moment.
It is a known fact that the composer’s profession is not a very profitable business within the frames of our society, so the support of the Rudolf and Margita Matz Fund greatly contributed to the realisation of my above mentioned compositions. The decision to continue with the funding is excellent news for young composers who will be helped and supported in their work and artistic development.
